Beaver
/ Parent Camp
Planning Guidelines & General
Information |
What
is the purpose of this camp?
* Fun
& Learning for everyone.
* To provide an overnight experience for Beavers. For some this
is a rare experience.
* Getting parents involved. A great camp experience can create
leaders from parents.
* Leader team building. The planning & implementation of a
huge project is an invaluable experience. |
Who
is in charge of this camp?
* The "Camp Committee"
is in charge. This committee consists of those adult campers,
who are present at any meeting convened by the Camp Chief, where
there is a quorum.
* A quorum consists of 1 acting chief, 3 current job holders and
3 adult campers (can be leaders).
* An acting chief can be appointed only by the official chief(s),
the ADC or DC. |
Who
can come?
* All Langley Beavers
are welcome, whether their own leaders are attending or not. Every
effort should be made to get Camp information to each Langley
Beaver's family.
* The Beaver/Parent ratio is 1:1. The Camp Committee may allow
a ratio of 1:2 in some cases, where one adult is directly responsible
for both Beavers. This usually occurs where there are two Beavers
in one family.
* We cannot allow pets or siblings at this camp.
* If final registration numbers exceed the set limits, the following
criteria shall be employed to determine who is accepted:
1. Which Colonies were represented
at every planning meeting?
2. Which campers have turned in a
completed physical fitness form?
3. Which campers are paid in full?
|
Why
must all Colonies be represented at every planning meeting?
* With a camp
of this enormous size (usually 300 people), we must ensure that
communication to each Colony is as direct as possible during the
8 month process. If a leader cannot come, a parent liaison can
attend.
* Having more people "in the know" usually produces
a smoother running, fun camp.
* Attendance at every planning meeting is important, not just
to have the biggest pool of creative ideas, and not just to share
the massive load of tasks, but to build an effective leadership
team.
* The planning and execution of the camp plan, makes for invaluable
team building & networking experience.
* It also prepares all the new people to be more knowledgable
and valuable for next year. |
Planning
Meetings?
* Round-Table is not
a forum for this Camp, except perhaps briefly in September.
* There are 7 planning meetings, including the evaluation meeting
in June. There are also 2 meetings during the actual Camp, at
approximately 930pm each evening.
* Date, time, and place are at the discretion of the Camp Committee.
Historically, the first meeting is held in October, then monthly
meetings begin in January.
* Planning meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month,
usually always at the same location each time, for consistancy.
Currently we meet 8-10pm at St Andrew's Church, 20955 Old Yale
Rd. Langley, B.C.

What
must each Beaver Colony do?
* Each Colony supplies
an activity or craft to the entire camp. Colonies may combine
efforts, because of individual colony size or because of the extent
of preparation work involved. Individual Colony expenses shall
be budgeted and built into the camp fee. The Camp Committee must
approve each activity or craft.
* One person from each Colony takes on a Camp Committee job position.
* One person from each Colony becomes a designated clean-up person,
to stay after the camp closing to help with the final clean-up
for inspection by the caretaker. We must return our camp to the
pristine condition we found it in, (even if we didn't find the
camp in pristine condition we want to leave it better than we
found it, of course).
