Volunteer Opportunities
Storm Drain Marking
On July 24, 2009, hundreds of Coho fry were killed by toxic
substances that entered a storm drain at Hyde Creek in Port
Coquitlam. The yellow painted salmon beside storm drains
are a physical reminder that storm drains affect the health
of our waterways and the wildlife that live in them. In
August, LEPS is challenging families, community groups,
and corporate groups to help us mark the storm drains in
Langley. LEPS has free storm drain marking kits available
at our office. Prizes will be awarded for outstanding initiative,
most marked, and creative dress. Prizes will include: group
canoeing/kayaking on the Fraser River in Fort Langley, a
workshop of your choice to be presented to a school in your
neighbourhood, a workshop/training session to be presented
to your family/group (such as Stream Keepers).

Did
you know that the Township of Langley boasts 13 major watersheds
comprising over 1500km of waterways (most of which are fish bearing);
5 major aquifers that provide us with drinking water; numerous
important habitat areas that support many vulnerable wildlife
species, and more stewardship associations than many municipalities?
That's cause to celebrate!! |
