Good Afternoon,

I am with the Langley Spirit of BC, and we are a non profit organization that participates in numerous events and festivals in Langley, along bringing awareness of opportunities arising from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. We are currently hosting a contest for youth between the ages of 15-18 that are attending a highschool in Langley. We are asking them to write an essay about their hero, and they will be entered to win $500, or a 8GB iPod Touch, or a $100 gift card. I wanted to see if any of your members might be interested in entering? I have attached the information below, and they can go to our website www.langleyspiritofbc.com under “Contests” for more information.

Heroes Live Here

Langley, BC. Langley’s Altitude Youth Ambassadors and Langley Spirit of BC are inviting Langley youth aged 15-18, to answer the question “Who is your Hero and why?”

Heroes surround us and are a part of our daily lives. They are inspiring and motivate you to reach a common goal or achievement. They can be anybody: an Olympian, a sports figure, a musician, a friend, a teacher, a soldier, a survivor, your parents.

We are all familiar with the saying: “A Hero doesn’t need to have superpowers to be one!”

Youth attending a high school in Langley or enrolled as a student in the Langley School District, you are encouraged to write an original essay answering the question of who is as their hero and why? Essays must be typed or written in legible handwriting, and it cannot be longer than 600 words.

They are entered to win...
· 1st prize - $500
· 2nd Prize - 8GB iPod Touch
· 3rd Prize - $100 gift card
All essays must be received at the Langley Spirit of BC office on Monday, February 2, 2009 by 4:00 PM.

Then all essay participants are invited to our “Heroes Live Here Coffee House” event! Event sponsors will be on hand to present the essay contest winners with their prizes.

Local heroes – or people who have achieved a lofty goal – have been asked to attend the Coffee House and share their story with everyone. They will share their challenges and offer their words of encouragement as our teens start their life journey. Be sure to bring your camera!

This event is held at the end of the Spirit of BC week on Friday, February 13, 2009 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at George Preston Recreation Centre. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

If you would be able to pass this information onto your teens that would be greatly appreciated! We look forward to reading their essays and having them meet the Heroes!

Sincerely,

Heather Kitto
